Surrey Police officer sacked for using work device to buy cocaine
The former detective has been barred from policing.
A Surrey Police officer has been dismissed and barred from the Force after being found guilty of gross misconduct involving cocaine use and pornography on a work device.
Former Detective Constable Luke Turner faced an accelerated misconduct hearing on 19th December 2025, where it was revealed that he had used his police-issued mobile data terminal (MDT) for unprofessional and explicit purposes.
The hearing concluded that Mr Turner had used the device to assist in buying cocaine on four occasions between July and August 2025, searched for and watched porn, taken photos of his genitals, and sent sexual messages to another individual.
Chair Sarah Grahame said Mr Turner’s actions significantly damaged public trust and breached multiple police standards. He was dismissed without notice and placed on the national barred list, preventing him from serving in policing again.
“I believe that the public of Surrey would be rightly appalled if they knew that this officer was engaging in this behaviour,” Sarah Grahame said, explaining that such misconduct would discredit the police service and harm its reputation.
Mr Turner denied allegations relating to the purchase of Class A drugs and sexual messages on the device but admitted to watching porn and taking explicit photos, arguing these did not amount to gross misconduct.
Assistant Chief Constable Grahame reviewed all evidence and confirmed the misconduct. She stated the behaviour constituted discreditable conduct and failure to follow force policies and rules.
Under updated police conduct rules introduced in 2025, officers found guilty of gross misconduct are presumed to be dismissed unless exceptional circumstances apply, which were not present in this case.
The chair concluded: “I do not believe that DC Turner could remain with Surrey Police given the seriousness of the behaviour found on duty.”
