Surrey Police officer given restraining order for stalking
PC Jake Mullarkey faces misconduct proceedings
A Surrey Police officer has been sentenced to a two-year restraining order after being found guilty of stalking a victim, following his trial at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
PC Jake Mullarkey was convicted on 24th June 2026 and sentenced at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, where he received the restraining order and was mandated to 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Mullarkey, based in Burpham, was charged after the victim reported on 27th July 2024 that she discovered an electronic tracking device hidden in her car, sparking concerns of stalking.
Arrested the following day, Mullarkey was suspended from the force.
Despite admitting to placing the tracker, Mullarkey claimed it was due to safety concerns; however, this defence was dismissed by District Judge Teresa Szagun, given the inconsistency with his trip to the Euro 2024 finals in Germany.
Phone data revealed over 600 uses of the app connected to the device within a two-week period, and further evidence showed his possession of another tracker and a purchase order for an additional device through emails.
Following the court proceedings, misconduct actions will be initiated to assess whether Mullarkey violated the Policing Standards of Professional Behaviour.
Surrey Police will conduct an accelerated misconduct hearing on 4th August to address the formal breach determination.
