Surrey man to face trial over alleged hateful messages
He is alleged to have sent antisemitic communications
A 30-year-old man from Surrey will face trial accused of sending hateful messages to the Israeli embassy and a Muslim organisation, and threatening messages to the office of Reform UK MP Robert Jenrick.
Nick Daly, of Oxted, is alleged to have sent antisemitic communications containing “extreme violence” to the Israeli embassy, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday.
He is also charged with leaving a threat of death or serious harm for an MP, which prosecutors said relates to messages to the chief of staff of Robert Jenrick, Reform UK’s Treasury spokesman, in which Daly is alleged to have said “f*** Israel”.
Eight of the offences relate to him allegedly sending Islamophobic communications to a Muslim organisation, and there is one count of sending antisemitic messages to the Israeli embassy, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.
The alleged offences took place between January 27 and May 7, according to the CPS.
Daly is charged with nine counts of sending communication conveying an indecent or offensive message, one count of sending communication threatening death or serious harm, one count of possession of an offensive weapon and one count of possession of cannabis.
He appeared in court wearing a grey sweatshirt and jogging trousers, and did not enter a plea for any of the charges.
District Judge Sam Goozee told Daly: “In relation to these matters, you will be sent to Southwark Crown Court to stand trial.
“Your next appearance will be on June 8 at Southwark Crown Court via videolink.
“If convicted of these offences there is a prospect of you receiving an immediate prison sentence.”
Daly was remanded into custody at the end of the hearing.
