Surrey man jailed for rape and sexual assault in Berkshire

A man from Surrey has been jailed for eight years after raping and sexually assaulting a woman at her home in Berkshire.
43 year old Farai Maumbe, of Nightingale Avenue, Chertsey, was convicted by a unanimous jury of two counts of sexual assault by penetration, one count of rape, one count of intentional strangulation and one count of sexual assault. The verdicts followed a five‑day trial at Reading Crown Court, which concluded on 12 December last year.
At the same court on Friday 13 February, Maumbe was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
The court heard that on 20 May 2023, Maumbe went to the victim’s home in Berkshire and sexually assaulted her. Despite the woman telling him to stop and trying to resist, he continued, raping and sexually assaulting her and strangling her while doing so.
The next day, when the victim confronted him about the attack, Maumbe told her that “no means yes to me”.
He was arrested on 22 May 2023 and later charged on 21 December.
Investigating officer Detective Constable William Blundell, of East Berkshire CID, said the sentence reflected “the gravity of these offences and the ongoing risk the defendant poses.”
He added: “Just as he did when confronted by the victim the day after the attack, Maumbe continued throughout the trial to deny responsibility and showed no remorse for his actions.
