Surrey man arrested after crash leaves pedestrian hospitalised

A 37-year-old man from Horley has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assault causing grievous bodily harm.

That's after a serious collision that happened in Reigate on Thursday (5th June).

A pedestrian involved in the crash is currently in hospital in a serious condition.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said "The collision occurred just before 5.45pm on Hornbeam Road between the driver of a silver Mercedes and a pedestrian.

"The driver of the car left the scene following the collision and the vehicle was located by officers the same evening.

"Officers attended an address in London last night (8 June), where they arrested a man in connection with the collision."

The driver remains in custody.

The Detective Inspector leading the investigation, Gavin Dublin-Cumberbatch, said "We understand this was a distressing incident with a significant emergency services presence on Hornbeam Road on the night of the collision.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the injured young man who remains in a serious condition.

"Officers from specialist teams are working around the clock to progress this investigation, which has led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man.

"Through our enquiries, we’ve established the suspect and the pedestrian are known to each other.

"We’re continuing to appeal for any information relating to the collision, as well as the movements of a silver Mercedes in the time shortly before or after the collision.”
