Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has been recognised for its progress in safeguarding the community, as highlighted in a recently released report.

Since its last inspection in 2023, SFRS has seen an increase in the prevention work it undertakes within the local community, as noted by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.

The inspectorate highlighted the service's comprehensive understanding of risks across the county and its effective planning for upcoming local government changes.

Despite these positive developments, inspectors indicated areas for improvement, suggesting the service should more proactively monitor staff working hours and enhance support for diversity within its workforce.

The report evaluated SFRS’s performance in 10 areas, grading it as good in six areas and adequate in four.

SFRS was commended for its effective collaboration with other services and agencies, ensuring readiness for major and multi-agency incidents.

The service was also recognised for resource allocation across its functions, with staff demonstrating high levels of competence and being well trained.

Additionally, the chief fire officer and other senior leaders were acknowledged for their visibility and approachability, and the service for its improved performance management and development processes.

His Majesty's Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services, Roy Wilsher, expressed satisfaction with SFRS’s achievements.

"Overall, I commend the service on the changes it has made and expect it to continue working to further improve in the areas we have identified," Wilsher said.
