Residents urged to make sure they register to vote in time
Officials are encouraging people not to leave registration until the last minute
Residents are being urged not to wait until the last minute when it comes to registering to vote.
The warning comes as the deadline to register on the 20th of April is less than 10 days away. Only those on the electoral register will be eligible to take part in the polls on May 7.
Candidates for those elections have been recently announced
In total 379 candidates are standing for 72 seats across 36 wards in the East Surrey Council Elections and 452 candidates are standing for 90 seats across 45 wards in the West Surrey Council elections.
The elections will be the first for the newly established East and West Surrey Council, giving residents the chance to help shape how local services are delivered.
The council members voted in will form a shadow council, which will only take control at the start of April next year.
Those who have recently changed their details (for example address) being particularly urged to check their details to make sure their registration is up to date.
Even those who believe they are already registered are being advised to ensure they are. Registration can be completed online
Those unable to vote in person can also apply for a postal vote or appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf.
