A Surrey charity founded by three brothers after losing their father to suicide is holding its biggest fundraising event yet this weekend.

The Hunchman Trust, founded by Charlie, Ben and Will Smith in memory of their father, known as "Hunch", will see 85 runners complete a 52-mile challenge between Weybridge and Fulham over Saturday and Sunday.

The charity was established after the brothers' father died by suicide in 2010. It aims to support people affected by suicide bereavement by bringing them together through endurance challenges, helping participants build friendships, support networks and a sense of community while raising money for the charity's work.

This year's RunHunchmanRun is the third edition of the event and has grown significantly since it began. Twenty-five people took part in the inaugural challenge in 2024, rising to 56 runners in 2025, with 85 signed up this year.

According to the charity, participants include friends of the founders, people running in memory of loved ones, those who have experienced bereavement themselves and others who want to support the cause.

Since it was launched, The Hunchman Trust has organised a series of endurance fundraising events, including ultra-marathons, long-distance cycle rides and Ironman challenges. It says those events have raised around £345,000.

The weekend challenge begins at Reeds Weybridge Rugby Football Club on Saturday morning, with runners heading to Bishops Park in Fulham before completing the return journey to Weybridge on Sunday.

The charity says its ambition is to ensure nobody affected by suicide bereavement has to face grief alone, while encouraging conversations around loss, resilience and mental health.
