Surrey County Council has awarded nearly £1 million to support business growth and innovation across the county, benefiting nearly 30 companies and entrepreneurs in the latest round of funding.

Each business will receive grants of up to £75,000, funded largely through UK Shared Prosperity Funding from the government. This investment is expected to unlock millions of pounds in match funding and create dozens of new jobs in Surrey.

Among grant recipients is Guildford-based Mantisonix, a University of Surrey spinout developing ultrasonic technology to destroy “forever chemicals” sustainably. The funding will support the development of a new facility to expand its work in environmental innovation.

Other beneficiaries include MS Venison, which plans to establish a new butchery facility in Oxted, and Afromufasa, a family-run catering business set to launch a new food truck, generating up to eight jobs in Weybridge.

Meanwhile, Godalming-based DIY Her Way will provide online electrician training for 100 women, addressing Surrey’s shortage of skilled tradespeople.

H2 Government-backed funding supports Surrey innovation

Surrey County Council first launched its Economic Growth Fund in April to support projects accelerating economic growth, fostering innovation, and creating new employment opportunities.

The first round, announced in September, distributed about £2 million. With this latest £1 million investment, over £3 million has been allocated in 2023.

Reigate-based Rhevia, formerly Streetwise Technology, is among the businesses benefiting from earlier funding. The firm uses hardware and AI to enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic flow on highways.

Dorian Isaacson of Rhevia spoke about the impact of the council's support.

“This grant has been genuinely transformational, enabling us to recruit two new team members and advance our technology,” Isaacson said.

“That progress directly helped us win new customers and accelerate our growth. As we scale, we expect this to translate into high-value jobs, continued innovation, and a growing contribution to the Surrey economy.”

H2 Awards showcase Surrey’s vibrant business community

Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Economic Growth, Councillor Matt Furniss, highlighted the strength of business innovation in the area.

“This investment represents another significant step in strengthening and growing Surrey’s economy,” Furniss said.

“The quality and breadth of the bids within the hundreds of applications we received is testament to the vibrancy of the business community across the county.”

Nearly 30 successful companies will advance innovative projects that aim to deliver long-term benefits for people across Surrey in the months ahead.
