Hosepipe ban comes into effect today.
A hosepipe ban issued by Southern Water comes into effect today, effecting large parts of the south of England.
From 9am today (21 July) Southern Water Hosepipe restrictions will be in place across Hampshire 9am on Monday 21 July.
The hosepipe ban will stop customers from using a hosepipe for non-essential activities.
Example activities listed by Southern water include watering gardens, filling paddling pools, hot tubs or swimming pools and washing cars, patios, or windows.
However, a manager of a gardening company that operates in Surrey and Hampshire, says that the hosepipe ban can serve as an opportunity to take better care of your garden.
David Miller runs Pristine Gardens based in Guildford
"There’s nothing stopping you going to your tap as normal, filling up your watering can and watching your plants. You just have to put that little bit more effort in and a few more walks up and down down the garden. But it means you are watering more precisely and not spraying it up the fence on the plant rather than in the soil."
As more and more hosepipe bans are issued across the county, David says that there are things that people can do to prepare themselves.
"It is quite a common thing now that every year we are getting it so we should be preparing more for it. So things like your flower beds, if you were to mulch them, you're going to stop the water evaporating and save it more
So if you find someone that does work on their lawns and mulches their bed, their garden isn't going to dry out as quickly or as bad as the neighbours that don't do anything."
Southern Water have said that they don't know when the ban will be lifted. On their website they say that they'll only lift the ban when there’s enough water in their reservoirs, rivers and underground aquifers to meet demand.
