Serious M25 crash near Bletchingley leaves van driver critically injured
Police seek witnesses as motorway remains closed following collision between van and lorry
Police are appealing for information after a serious collision on the clockwise section of the M25 between Junctions 6 and 7, near Bletchingley, on Wednesday morning (24 June).
The incident occurred shortly before 10am and involved a white Mercedes Vito van and a white lorry.
Emergency crews attended the scene, where the van driver, a man in his 30s, received treatment for serious injuries before being airlifted to hospital.
The motorway remains closed in the clockwise direction between Junctions 6 and 7 as emergency services and National Highways continue recovery and safety operations. Recovery teams are working to remove one of the vehicles involved, while a substantial oil spill caused by the crash has resulted in damage to the road surface.
National Highways engineers are currently assessing the extent of the damage to ensure the carriageway can reopen safely.
Motorists can now use both lanes of the Junction 6 exit slip road, allowing traffic to leave and rejoin the motorway at that point if necessary.
Diversions remain in place via the M26 and surrounding local roads, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area where possible and monitor travel updates before setting out.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have captured footage on a dashcam or helmet camera, to come forward.
