A man has been jailed after exposing himself on trains twice in a matter of days, following an investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).
Oliver Shoesmith, 44, was sentenced to 10 months' imprisonment at Northampton Crown Court on Monday 13th July after admitting to two counts of exposure.
The court heard that on 20th August 2024, Shoesmith boarded a train at Guildford railway station heading towards Farnham.
He searched for lone women on the train, exposing himself first to a woman reading her book and then to another woman sitting with her husband.
Just two days later, on 22nd August, Shoesmith repeated his actions on a train from Brighton to Bedford, frightening a woman who screamed for help.
Shoesmith was identified while he was already serving time in prison for previous offences.
The BTP investigation led to his arrest at HMP Five Wells on 6th November 2025, where he confessed to the incidents during a questioning.
Despite previous prison terms dating back to 2018 and 2024 for similar offences, Shoesmith targeted lone women once again.
BTP Detective Constable Ewen Roberts emphasised the unacceptable nature of Shoesmith's repeated behaviour and assured that justice for victims remains a priority.
"There is absolutely no place for sexual offending on the rail network, and we're committed to securing justice for anyone who is targeted by the likes of Shoesmith.
"I'd urge anyone who experiences or witnesses a sexual offence on a train or at a station to report it to us by texting 61016.
"We take every report seriously, and will stop at nothing to put offenders before the courts."
