Met Police officer jailed for attacks on vulnerable women

A former Metropolitan Police officer has been jailed for 25 years for committing a series of rapes and sexual assaults on vulnerable women he met through dating apps and social media.
33 year old Dion Arnold from Camberley exploited his position as a police officer to gain these women's trust, engaging them in non-consensual sexual acts.
During proceedings at Guildford Crown Court, it emerged that Arnold had raped one victim while she slept, choked another until she was unconscious, and confessed fantasies of staging break-ins to assault women.
One of Arnold's victims was left pregnant and, following an abortion, she attempted suicide twice. Another victim revealed he once said, “What are you going to do – call the police? I am the police.”
Sentencing and Impact on Victims
Judge Deborah Charles sentenced Arnold to 25 years in jail, highlighting his "deep-seated need to control women." Arnold, previously tasked with handling domestic abuse cases for the Met, maintained a list on his phone recording medical details of over 30 women he had encountered.
After Arnold was first reported for rape, investigators successfully tracked other victims using this list.
The judge noted Arnold's apparent lack of remorse and said he demonstrated "deep levels of misogyny." It was concluded that he deliberately targeted women whom he perceived as vulnerable and less capable of resisting his advances.
Commenting on Arnold's misuse of his police status, Judge Charles remarked, “I’m sure you told these women what you did for a living early on in order to ensure the women you offended against placed their trust in you.”
Trial and Sentencing
Arnold, also an Army reservist medic, was found guilty in April of four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual assault. He targeted three of his victims via dating platforms such as Tinder, which led them to trust him due to his police role.
One victim testified: “His job as a police officer appealed to me. It gave me a green light to trust him and meet with him.” She recounted experiencing a severe mental health decline, noting two suicide attempts after Arnold’s abusive behaviour.
Another victim recounted that she agreed to use a "safe word" during sex with Arnold, which he chose to ignore.
Reflecting on Arnold's manipulation, she stated: “I believe he will find great pleasure in knowing the harm he has caused me.” She described Arnold using a "boyfriend playbook," pretending sincerity to break down her defenses and exploit her trust.
“He kept a list on his phone, categorising over 30 women seemingly by medical conditions. It makes me sick to my stomach that I have been reduced to my disability,” she added.
Post-Arrest Developments and Sentences
Having been imprisoned since his arrest in March 2025, Arnold was subsequently dismissed from his post at the Met.
The trial revealed Arnold's nonchalant demeanour regarding his crimes, such as "giggling" after a sexual assault, while victims doubted the authenticity of their reports due to Arnold's authority as a police officer.
Despite "glowing" references from Army colleagues, Arnold has been diagnosed with compulsive sexual behaviour disorder.
Claire Gallagher from the Crown Prosecution Service remarked: “Arnold deliberately targeted women that he thought would not stop him and would never have the courage to report him. They have proved him wrong and have seen him brought to justice for his appalling crimes.”
Arnold received a 25-year restraining order against contacting his victims, remains on the sex offenders register indefinitely, and is subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
He must serve at least two-thirds of his 25-year sentence before being eligible for parole, followed by an additional eight years on licence once released.
