A man has been sentenced for three years and eight months’ imprisonment after he was convicted of serious injury by dangerous driving following a collision in Egham, Surrey.

Billy Price, aged 30, of Booth Lane, Middlewich, Cheshire, pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving, one count each of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and driving whilst disqualified.

Price will also serve a driving disqualification, and have to pass an extended test in order to regain his licence.

Charges of possession of a bladed article, failure to allow blood specimen to be analysed and assault by beating will be held on file.

Shortly before 9pm on Sunday 16 February this year, our officers attempted to stop a blue Mercedes on Arthur Road in Windsor after witnessing an assault.

Price drove towards our officers and their vehicle and then drove dangerously through Windsor, towards Egham, resulting in a police pursuit.

Price then collided with an unrelated vehicle – a grey Volkswagen - and caused serious, life-changing injuries to the occupant of this vehicle.

An investigation was launched by Thames Valley Police and Surrey Police. Price was arrested at the scene and was later charged.

Investigating officer Inspector Sarah Bartlett, of the Roads Policing Unit, said:

“A dangerous offender has been taken off the streets due to the combined effort of numerous departments and officers across both Thames Valley Police and Surrey Police.

“We are all pleased that the judge chose to run Price’s dangerous driving offences consecutively.

“We hope that this time spent behind bars will allow Price some much-needed time for reflection on his actions.

“Dangerous driving has serious long-term consequences beyond imprisonment, including losing your job, facing increased car-insurance costs and changing the lives of those that you may injure as a result of your actions.

“By driving dangerously, you immediately pose a threat to the safety of yourself, your passengers, other drivers and pedestrians. And if found guilty, the consequences could last a lifetime. It’s never worth the risk.”
