Large undergrowth fire in Lightwater started deliberately
Land equivalent to around five football pitches has been affected
Surrey Fire and Rescue say a large undergrowth fire in Lightwater was started deliberately.
Fire crews were called out to deal with the blaze in Turfhill on Monday (5 May). The fire affected two hectares of land which is equivalent to around five football pitches.
A spokesperson for SFRS said: "It could have spread even further, endangering lives and causing more harm to the environment and precious habitats."
At the height of the fire four fire engines, two wildfire specialist vehicles, (Unimogs), one incident command unit and two land rovers were in attendance,
The park is natural area of heathland which provides a rare habitat for multiple species.
The public have been asked to call 999 if they do spot a deliberate fire.
