Surrey residents are set to benefit from hundreds of new jobs and expanded travel options as Jet2 announce the launch of flights and holidays from London Gatwick Airport — the airline’s 14th UK base and its largest new operation this century.
The move marks the first major leisure airline arrival at Gatwick since 2020, with Jet2 planning to base six aircraft, including five brand-new, fuel-efficient Airbus A321neos, at the airport. The first flight is scheduled to depart for Tenerife on 26 March 2026, just in time for the Easter holidays.
The expansion will initially create over 300 direct jobs across flight deck, cabin crew, engineering, and ground operations — many expected to be filled by candidates from Surrey and nearby areas.
The investment is also set to generate hundreds of additional indirect roles, strengthening the region’s economy and job market.
To support recruitment, Jet2 is hosting a career roadshow on today (13 November), at the Crowne Plaza London - Gatwick Airport in Crawley, from 10am to 3pm. Attendees can meet the team, learn about available roles, and register their interest in joining the growing airline.
Jet2’s Gatwick base will offer 29 destinations across Europe, including Spain, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Italy, and Croatia, giving Surrey holidaymakers more convenient access to sunshine getaways.
Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy said the launch was “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” to bring the airline’s award-winning service to customers in London and the South East. London Gatwick’s CEO Pierre-Hugues added that the move “brings even more choice and flexibility to passengers” and supports the airport’s ongoing growth.
With more flights, jobs, and travel options on the horizon, Jet2’s arrival marks a major boost for Surrey’s residents, workforce, and tourism links.
