£10 million contract approved for next stage of Weyside Urban Village in Guildford
Works will prepare the Slyfield Industrial Estate site for more than 1,500 new homes
A £10 million contract has been approved to get the next stage of the Weyside Urban Village redevelopment in Guildford underway.
Guildford Borough Council's cabinet has approved the deal for Natta Building Company Ltd to carry out infrastructure works on the project.
It is part of a major programme that will see large parts of the Slyfield Industrial Estate repurposed to make way for more than 1,500 new homes.
The contract is worth £10,399,903.38.
Deputy council leader Vanessa King, a Liberal Democrat councillor for Stoke, said: "This contract brings forward an important step in the delivery of Weyside Urban Village."
Councillor King added that the infrastructure works are critical to unlocking future development across the site.
What the works involve
The contract covers site preparation, demolition and ground investigations.
It also includes highways, drainage and other civil engineering projects.
Councillor King said: "The recommended value sits within the approved programme budget, and a competitive procurement process has been undertaken."
The main works are expected to begin from April 2027, although some survey work may start before then.
The construction works on this phase are expected to last 18 months, according to the council documents.
