Summer holiday elections to fill council seats
Three by-elections to take place in same Surrey town this summer.

Three by-elections will be held during the summer holidays to fill the vacant Runnymede Borough and Surrey County Council seats in Addlestone.
Two seats became available following the death of Runnymede stalwart and former Conservative council leader John Furey. Mr Furey represented Addlestone at county and Addlestone South at borough level.
Mr Furey was described as a friend, and mentor who was “always prepared to champion causes he believed in” by those who knew him.
The third seat was vacated following the sudden resignation of the Conservative group leader at Runnymede. Peter Snow stepped down citing family reasons having first been elected to the Chertsey South and Row Town ward in 2018 and then later representing Addlestone South.
The Thursday August 21 elections will be overseen by the borough council. Both councils will soon be dissolved and merged as part of local government reorganisation coming next year.
A spokesperson said: “Electors living in the area covered by the Addlestone South ward will be able to vote twice on the Runnymede Borough Council ballot paper and once on the Surrey County Council ballot paper.
“Electors living in other parts of Addlestone will only be able to vote in the county council by-election.
