Great Windsor Park makes illuminated application
Great Windsor Park gets ready for the most wonderful time of year.
The 2.2km winter wonderland walk through Great Windsor Park is gearing up return after it submitted an updated tree protection plan to Runnymede Borough Council.
Windsor Illuminated has become a bit of an annual Christmas tradition for families in Surrey and has permission to return until at least 2028.
Each year, as part of its preparations, organisers have to demonstrate how they will safeguard the trees that line the route throughout the installation process, the event, and its removal.
That has now been submitted and clears the path for another year where visitors can be ‘captivated by the woodland and water walk’ through Great Windsor Park, the organisers said.
The lights will start and end at the Savill Garden Visitor Centre car park and go around the Obelisk Pond along the footpath and tracks.
Installation will begin in October ahead of its opening in mid November where it will remain open over Christmas and the new year before being taken down in January.
As part of the project’s planning permission a qualified tree specialist need to submit how the trees “in relation to design, demolition, and construction” will be kept safe as well as details on how frequently the trees will be inspected during the event.
A spokesperson for the event said: “Windsor Great Park Illuminated has not applied to remove a planning condition and would not do so."
“The permission for the event requires us to submit an updated tree protection plan every year, prepared by qualified arboriculturists, setting out how the trees along the route will be safeguarded throughout installation, the event and breakdown."
“The document in question is this year’s required submission. It is the condition being complied with, not removed.”
