Police are appealing for witnesses following a series of incidents where liquid and a glass bottle has been thrown from passing vehicles at members of the public in Epsom and Elmbridge.

Officers received a report yesterday, 6 August, of an incident at around 8pm on College Road, Epsom that a vehicle slowed alongside a jogger and a passenger reportedly squirted liquid, believed to be water, into their face from a bottle. They were not injured. The vehicle is described as a black Audi.

This follows a series of similar incidents reported in Elmbridge.

The most recent of these took place at around 10.42pm on Friday, 17 July along Esher Road, near the Molesey Road roundabout. It was reported that a black SUV drove past and a glass bottle containing liquid was thrown from the vehicle towards a victim walking along the street. No injuries were reported.

Two similar incidents were also reported in Cobham on 6 May. At around 5.55pm in Leigh Corner, and later the same evening at around 7.50pm in Tilt Road, victims reported liquid being thrown at them from a passing vehicle.

Police say they understand these incidents may cause concern in the community and would like to reassure residents that they are taking them seriously and enquiries are ongoing.

Elmbridge Borough Commander, Inspector Chris Thoday, said: “We recognise the distress and alarm incidents like this can cause. While thankfully no injuries have been reported, this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable. We are actively investigating and ask anyone with information to come forward.”

If you witnessed one of these incidents, have dashcam or video footage, or have experienced something similar, you are asked to contact the force.
