Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) has announced the chosen site for a new Frimley Park Hospital (FPH), marking a significant milestone.

The hospital, built almost 60 years ago using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), needs replacing due to safety issues.

The new hospital, part of the government’s New Hospital Programme, is set to be built on Pine Ridge Golf Club land, owned by Frimley Fuel Allotments.

Frimley Health plans to engage the community through meetings, surveys, and focus groups, collecting input on the proposals.

Opposition to the plan has been strong, with over 11,000 people signing a petition against using Frimley Fuel Allotments for the hospital site.

Surrey Heath MP Al Pinkerton also expressed reservations, citing concerns over green space loss and infrastructure pressure: "Getting this decision wrong could have consequences that last for generations."

Local councillor Paul Deach shared his concerns, stating: "First and foremost is infrastructure, specifically transportation and the inevitable impact on our local highway network.

"The cumulative impact of such a development should be a major concern for everyone living in the area."

Lance McCarthy, Chief Executive of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“This is about creating a hospital that local people can rely on - not just today, but for generations to come.

“A new Frimley Park Hospital will mean safer buildings, modern facilities and an environment that helps our staff deliver the very best care.

“The benefits go beyond the hospital itself. As we build, we want local people to share in what we're creating, through apprenticeships, support for local businesses and investment in skills and training, so that communities across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire feel the benefit directly. This is a chance to bring lasting jobs and growth to the area, alongside better healthcare.

“We know how much people care about Frimley Park, and that's why today's announcement is just the beginning. We're looking forward to working with our communities to shape the future of their hospital together.”

Next, Frimley Health will refine its plans and conduct detailed evaluations, aiming to submit a planning application by autumn 2027.

The trust say safety at the current hospital will remain a priority until the new facility is built.
