Former Surrey MP Crispin Blunt is due to appear in court to face allegations he was caught in possession of drugs including cannabis and crystal meth.

The 65-year-old former justice minister is accused of possessing class A and class B drugs when police raided his home in Horley on October 25 2023.

It is said he had the chemical drug GBL, a sedative, as well as cannabis, methamphetamine and methylamphetamine – which is commonly known as crystal meth.

Blunt, who represented Reigate in Parliament between 1997 and 2024, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning to face the charges for the first time.

When the allegations were first announced, Malcolm McHaffie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “We have decided to charge Crispin Blunt, 65, with four drugs offences – one count of possessing a controlled drug of Class A and three counts of possessing a controlled drug of Class B.

“The charges follow police attendance at Mr Blunt’s home address in Horley on October 25 2023, which was in relation to a separate matter.

“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.

“We have worked closely with Surrey Police as they have carried out their investigation.

“We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.

“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.

Blunt represented the Conservative Party in Parliament, he served in David Cameron’s government as parliamentary under-secretary of state for prisons and youth justice from 2010 to 2012, and went on to chair the Foreign Affairs Select Committee from 2015 until 2017.

He lost the Tory whip in October 2023 when he was first arrested by police, and he stood down from Parliament at the 2024 general election.

Prior to entering Parliament, Blunt was a graduate of the Sandhurst Military Academy and he spent more than a decade as an officer in the British Army.
