Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is calling on residents to look out for vulnerable people this winter through its new “You’re Their Person” campaign.

The initiative encourages loved ones, carers, neighbours and even utility workers to refer those at risk for a free Safe and Well Visit, a service designed to help people stay safe in their homes.

The service hopes to raise awareness of its free visits, which are carried out thousands of times each year across the county.

A Safe and Well Visit is a free, tailored service delivered by firefighters and prevention staff. During the visit, teams check and install smoke alarms, discuss escape routes in case of fire, and offer practical tips to reduce risks.

They also provide advice on wellbeing issues such as falls prevention and home security, and can connect residents with other local support services if needed.

Area Commander for Prevention David Nolan said, “Many of us have someone we care about who might be more vulnerable at home, perhaps because of their age, health, or living circumstances.

The ‘You’re Their Person’ campaign urges everyone in Surrey to consider whether they are someone’s person. It could be your elderly neighbour who lives alone, your mum or dad, or someone you know who provides care for others.

By taking a moment to check on them and referring them for a Safe and Well Visit, you could make a life-saving difference. Let’s work together to keep residents safe across Surrey. Remember, everyone has a person, make sure you’re there for yours.”
