A 36-year-old man has been jailed for three years after he was charged with assault, possessing an offensive weapon, shoplifting and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in Farnborough.

Christopher Waite, of Coombe Way, assaulted two men, a teenage boy and a police officer in Farnborough in four separate incidents between April and June.

Winchester Crown Court also heard that Waite stole alcohol worth £230 from Tesco, Aldi and Morrisons stores in Farnborough and Aldershot between April and June.

He was also found in Farnborough carrying a large plank of wood and was arrested for possessing an offensive weapon on 3 June.

The court heard that Waite had breached a CBO on three separate occasions at Tesco Express on Cove Road, Farnborough. The CBO was put in place in March this year.

Waite was arrested and later charged with, assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, assault by beating, common assault, common assault of an emergency worker, possess an offensive weapon in a public place, five counts of theft from a shop and three counts of a breach of a CBO.

He denied assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm but was later found guilty. He pleaded guilty to the other 12 offences and was jailed for a total of three years at Winchester Crown Court last Thursday.

Inspector, Mike Hall of Surrey Police, said: “Christopher Waite is a prolific offender in the Farnborough area, and we know his actions have had a considerable impact on our local businesses and the wider community.

“Between April and June this year, his actions spiralled out of control, and he was involved in violent crime – something which will not be tolerated in Hart and Rushmoor.

“Waite was arrested and later charged with 13 offences and will now spend a considerable amount of time behind bars for what he did.

“I hope this result reassures the community that we take reports like this extremely seriously and we will do all we can to ensure that offenders are put before the courts.”
