Dorking has embarked on a mission to become the UK Town of Culture in 2028, with the initiative spearheaded by Hello Dorking (the Business Improvement District).

The UK Government has launched the first UK Town of Culture competition, offering a £3 million prize to the winning town and £250,000 for two runners-up.

The government said the contest aimed to celebrate the "enormous contribution" of people and places to cultural life.

Dorking aims to strengthen its social ties, preserve its musical heritage, and celebrate its independent spirit.

Hello Dorking plans to boost footfall, secondary spending, and civic pride through local sourcing, community consultation, and heritage storytelling.

Hello Dorking is asking for the local community to contribute to the bid.
