Cranleigh residents told us that they were concerned about the safety of their roads following two fatal collisions in 24 hours last weekend.

Both collisions were on Elmbridge Road in the evening and lead to the death of a man in his 20s, and a woman in her 80s.

The road is situated right next to the A281, which has a 60-mile-an-hour speed limit. Locals told us that this can lead to dangerous situations.

"Straight out of the village you're going onto a 60 mile-an-hour road, leads to newer younger drivers making mistakes because they don't have the experience"

"People come off the A281 and sometimes people keep going at the same old speed"

Residents also told us that they have noticed the roads in the area getting more and more busy, which some say make them feel less safe.

"There's just loads and loads of cars, much more traffic than there ever used to be but you just have to be very watchful"

"Used to feel safe, not so much now, just because the population has gotten so much bigger, more cars, more traffic more careless drivers."

Not all locals told us that they actively felt unsafe on the road, however all were aware of the incidents that had taken place over the weekend.

Police are appealing for information regarding the incidents.

For the first incident on Friday evening, police say they are particularly interested in the manner of driving of a red Ford C Max shortly prior to the collision at 9:30 pm.

For the Saturday collision, police are interested in the manner of driving of a blue Golf R shortly prior to the collision, also at 9:30 pm

Police are also asking for dash cam footage, as their investigations continue.
