Dog owners are being urged to ensure their pets are kept under control following an incident in Surrey Heath where several chicken were injured and 10 died.

Surrey Police say the attack, on the 26th of March in Lucas Green, West End, involved a dog that was off its lead.

Authorities are currently seeking to identify the dog and its owner, and have released an image in hopes of gathering more information.

If you recognise this dog or have any relevant details, you are encouraged to contact the authorities and quote PR/45260035269.

The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 recently came into effect, imposing potentially unlimited fines on owners whose dogs are convicted of such offences.

The amendment also equips police with greater capabilities to address these incidents more efficiently.

Livestock worrying continues to be a significant issue for farmers and landowners in Surrey.

What is Livestock Worrying?

Livestock worrying includes not having your dog on a lead or under control when near or in a field with livestock.

It also encompasses dogs attacking livestock, or chasing them in a way that causes injury or suffering.

Your dog doesn’t need to physically touch an animal to cause distress.

Even if they bark, chase, or come too close, it can be considered livestock worrying, and these actions can lead to injury or anxiety among the affected animals.
