A former care home in Caterham could be turned into a nursery for up to 95 children under a new planning application.

The old Queens Park Lodge building would become a day care facility under proposals submitted to Tandridge District Council by Squirrel Wood Properties Ltd.

A small rear extension would be included as part of the redevelopment of the site.

The proposals are designed to create extra accommodation space for babies and toddlers.

The applicant's planning statement said: "The layout has been designed around the operational requirements of the nursery and provides a direct relationship between the internal accommodation and the existing rear garden.

"In particular, the toddler accommodation will have direct access towards the garden, supporting the provision of outdoor play and enabling effective supervision."

According to the developer, the nursery would have a maximum capacity of 95 children.

The developer expects daily attendance to be lower, to account for children who attend part-time.

Normal operating hours would be 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

The nursery would also offer limited early and late care for some children, starting at 7am and ending at 7pm.

The applicant anticipates 26 full-time staff would be employed at the day care centre.

They would include nursery teachers, as well as administrative and catering staff.
