Surrey care home receives 'Outstanding' rating on its first try
The Care Quality Commission gave the rating to GoodOaks Homecare in Epsom and Reigate - which is a rare achievement for a brand new care home
GoodOaks Homecare in Epsom and Reigate has achieved an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission after its first inspection in February.
The agency, operated by Bonum Care Ltd, provides support to adults of all ages, including those with physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and sensory impairments.
Inspectors awarded the caring and well-led categories the highest possible rating, while other areas were marked as ‘Good’.
The inspection revealed that GoodOaks Homecare goes above and beyond typical care standards, with staff engaging deeply with clients to understand their routines and day-to-day needs.
Amy Jupp, deputy director of operations at the Care Quality Commission, praised the agency's leadership and client-first culture, noting the importance of understanding individuals to ensure they feel heard, respected, and safe.
Families also expressed satisfaction, stating they felt involved in care decisions and appreciated regular updates without needing to chase for information.
The director of GoodOaks Epsom and Reigate highlighted the philosophy of treating every client as family, a principle that influences hiring practices and care delivery decisions.
Managers and office staff frequently visit clients to assess care needs and build relationships, while open communication channels ensure families can easily reach out and receive regular updates.
Registered manager Emma Manning expressed her joy at the outstanding rating, noting it reflects the strong team values and the commitment of carers who approach their work as if they were supporting their own family members.
Inspectors found the service well-organised, with detailed care plans, consistent support, and efficient collaboration with health and social care professionals, resulting in smoother hospital discharge processes and fewer delays.
The focus on maintaining client independence as long as possible was also noted, alongside the high morale among staff who feel supported by approachable managers.
The Care Quality Commission hopes other providers will look to GoodOaks Homecare as an example of exceptional care in practice.
