A burglar has been jailed for two and a half years, after he stole jewellery, watches and cash from homes in Farnborough.

Paul Capon, 63, of Clayton Road, Farnborough, broke into a property on Hawley Road on 22 October and stole a wallet, cash, jewellery and a watch. He also accessed a property on Fernhill Walk on the same day; but no items were stolen.

On 28 October, he gained access to a property on Ashbury Drive and stole jewellery, perfume, a watch, handbag and electronics. He also broke into a property on Lower Wokingham Road, Crowthorne, Berks, on 5 September, but did not steal anything.

Officers launched an investigation and made an arrest in connection with the reports. Paul Capon, 63, of Clayton Road, Farnborough, was charged with:

Burglary dwelling – with intent to steal x 2

Burglary dwelling and theft – no violence x 2

Capon pleaded guilty to all offences and was jailed for 30 months at Winchester Crown Court on Thursday 4 June.

Meanwhile, Emily Mills, 31, of Redan Road, Aldershot, was handed a community order and ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation course after she pleaded guilty to handling stolen in goods in connection with the Ashbury Drive burglary. She was sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates Court in March.

Detective Sergeant Dan Lucas, from the Northern Area Crime Team, said: “Burglary is one of the most intrusive crimes. It can have untold, long-lasting impacts on the victims and no one should have to feel unsafe in their own home.

“I am pleased that we are now in a position whereby Paul Capon will now be behind bars for a significant period of time for what he has done.

“I hope this sentence sends out a strong message to would-be opportunists. We will find you, we will put you in front of the courts and you will have to face justice, and the consequences, of your actions.”
