Last updated 11th Aug 2026
An amber warning for extreme heat has been issued, set to affect regions across England from London to Sheffield.
According to the Met Office, the warning will be in place from 9am to midnight on Thursday, the 17th of August.
The advisory highlights potential adverse health effects for people vulnerable to extreme heat.
The wider population is also at risk of experiencing sunburn, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related illnesses including dehydration, nausea, and fatigue.
Changes to working practices and daily routines may be necessary, and some heat-sensitive systems and equipment may fail.
This could result in power cuts and the loss of other services to homes and businesses.
The warning also predicts increased visits to coastal areas, lakes, and rivers, increasing the risk of water safety incidents.
Additionally, delays to road, rail, and air travel are possible, with potential welfare issues for those facing prolonged delays.
