A team of 17 drivers will be taking on a top gear-inspired challenge next month to raise money for a local hospice.

The challenge will see the drivers drive 750 miles in cars that cost 750 pounds or less to raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

The drive will start and end in Ewshot and take place over the 19th to the 19th of April. The route goes up through Wales, making a deliberate point of avoiding motorways.

One of the cars taking part, is the one pictured above, which was bought on Ebay for £723

One of the event organisers, Brendan Cox says £750 isn't too tight of a financial constraint

There's quite an eclectic range and really surprising actually what you can get up to £750. We've got a couple of convertible cars, little small sports cars

We've got two Jaguars, we've got an old Range Rover and we've also got a London taxi that's done just over 400,000 miles.

Brendan told us about why the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice is so important to himself and the group

"It was about a year or so ago, we were chatting with a group of friends over a few beers. We're all sort of very much into our cars and we were talking about the sort of things that we should actually do as a sort of local community and how we can actually raise money for one of the charities on our doorstep.

The Phyllis Tuckwell hospice is literally just down the road in Farnham and a number of us actually have had personal experience of them looking after family over the years.

They do an absolutely fantastic job. I personally had my two parents-in-law spend their final days there. So it's very, very close to me. And we were really grateful for the sort of compassion and support that they showed during those very challenging periods."

Brendan told us a sense of comradery will be important over the 4 days

"I think it's going to be very important because £750, that's although I said earlier it gets you a lot of car, but also gets you a lot of trouble and unreliability. So we are expecting cars to actually break down and need assistance.

There are one or two people there that kind of know their way around spanner so having their help on the spot is going to be very important. We do actually have to support drivers as well.

As I mentioned earlier, some of these cars have already done a fair old mileage and have been saved from the scrapheap. So I think the biggest challenge is just going to be completing the three days without any serious mishaps."

On the course of the journey, the 17 drivers will take on challenges, which we were told are being kept secret until the event itself. Brendan told us these challenges are inspired by those on Top Gear

On the final day of the trip, the group are planning to swing by the Farmer's Dog pub, the pub owned by former presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

Regardless on whether the group get to meet Jeremy, Brendan told us he is confident it will be a trip to remember

"I'm sure there'll be some great stories to be told at the end when we actually reached our final destinations."
