A developer’s appeal for a 69-bed care home has been withdrawn.

Colten Care Limited’s plan for a 69-bed care home and five, two-bedroom cottages with internal access roads and landscaping was submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council in April last year.

The plans for the site on land adjoining 4 Brookfield, Providence Hill, Bursledon were turned down at a Bursledon, Hamble-le-Rice and Hound local area committee meeting on November 21, 2024.

The company, established in 1981 with 21 care homes across southern England which specialise in residential, nursing and dementia care, had appealed the council’s decision.

But that has now been withdrawn on August 15.

The planning decision notice that refused the application said it was turned down because the proposed building was an “overbearing and intrusive form of development” and would have a negative impact on neighbours at 1-4 Brookfield.

The committee said despite Hampshire Highways not raising objections they were concerned because the development would reduce parking, highway safety with concerns about access from the site on and off Providence Hill due to the speed of traffic already on the road.

Listed were concerns over the lack of information on the impact of the care home on NHS services.

Along with the lack of contributions from the developer to help pay for local community infrastructure including sustainable transport and traffic and funding for public art and a public open space.

The notice also said as a protected site, plans had not addressed the development’s impact of nutrient loading and recreational pressure which was against policy.
