16-year-old in court accused of murdering teen in Guildford park
Luis Gabriel Guembes died after being stabbed in Stoke Park
A 16-year-old boy is set to appear at Guildford Crown Court today (Monday, 22nd January) charged with murdering a 15-year-old boy in a Guildford park last week.
The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, is accused alongside a 15-year-old, also unnamed, of killing Luis Gabriel Guembes. Luis was found fatally stabbed in Stoke Park, off Lido Road, Guildford, on the evening of Monday, 15th January.
Both teenagers were charged on Friday with murder, conspiracy to rob, and possession of a knife in a public place.
At Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, the pair appeared wearing grey tracksuits in separate hearings, with the 16-year-old confirming his name, date of birth, and address. The court heard that he lives with his parents, while the younger defendant resides with his mother.
In the hearing, District Judge Julie Cooper told the older defendant:
"These matters, as you've probably been told, can't be dealt with in youth court and all matters are being sent to the crown court at Guildford."
The 16-year-old was remanded into youth detention until his crown court appearance today.
Luis was pronounced dead at the scene after members of the public and emergency services rushed to help him in the wooded area at Stoke Park.
Police were called to the location at around 6.10pm last Monday following reports of a stabbing.
The 15-year-old defendant also remains in youth detention as investigations continue.
Surrey Police are urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
