Three more teenage boys arrested after fire destroys former Haverhill school

Seven boys have now been questioned over the blaze at the empty Parkway Middle School building on Park Road, which police say could be seen for miles around.

Police investigating the huge fire at the former Parkway Middle School in Haverhill have arrested three more teenage boys.

Emergency services were called to the empty school building on Park Road at 8.46pm on Tuesday 12 May 2026 after the fire broke out. Police are treating the blaze as suspected arson.

A 14-year-old boy and two 15-year-old boys were arrested on Wednesday 27 May on suspicion of criminal damage – arson. All three were taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning before being released on bail.

They are due to return to police on 24 August, 25 August and 24 July respectively.

The latest arrests bring the total number of teenagers arrested in connection with the fire to seven.

Two boys aged 14 and 15 were arrested on 15 May on suspicion of criminal damage – arson and bailed to return on 7 August.

Before that, two more 15-year-old boys were arrested on 13 May and 14 May on suspicion of the same offence. They were bailed to return on 22 June and 14 July.

Police previously said they believed several people may have been involved in the fire or had information about what happened that night.

Detectives described the blaze as an “extremely dangerous situation” which destroyed a very large building and led to flames being visible across the area.
