An 83-year-old woman has been seriously injured during a suspected firearm incident in a Suffolk village.

The police were alerted by the East of England Ambulance Service around around 4pm on Thursday (26th February), following reports that the woman had sustained an injury after a firearm was discharged at an address on The Street in Monks Eleigh.

The woman suffered a chest injury and was taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where her condition is reported as serious but stable.

A man in his 80s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Police have stated they are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

West Suffolk CID is urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward.
