Suffolk Police has delivered significant results during Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week, a county-wide initiative aimed at tackling retail crime and safeguarding local businesses.

Over the course of the week, officers conducted daily engagements with retailers, carried out joint patrols with partners, and executed targeted warrants at high-harm premises. These efforts led to over 20 arrests, including prolific shoplifters and individuals wanted for serious offences. Immigration offences were also uncovered, resulting in fines and enforcement action against non-compliant businesses.

Officers also worked alongside Designing Out Crime Officers to provide crime prevention advice and gathered critical intelligence to help disrupt future organised criminal activity.

In Newmarket, officers arrested a man on 10 November at the Guineas Shopping Centre after he allegedly stole a pair of gloves.

The suspect was linked to five previous thefts.

Kevin Davis, 42, of Howard de Walden Way, has been charged with six counts of theft from a shop and is set to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on 9 January 2026.

In Ipswich, a theft from a convenience store on 11 November led to another key arrest during the operation.

James Marks, 41, of no fixed abode, was charged with three counts of shoplifting and is scheduled to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 10 December 2025.

SaBA Week brought businesses, law enforcement, and local communities together, highlighting the importance of collaboration in creating a safer retail environment across the region.
