Suffolk man charged with murder, after 71 year-old dies in hospital

A man from Suffolk has been charged with murder, after a man who was seriously injured in Newmarket earlier this month, died in hospital.

25 year-old Levi Williams, of Holland Park in Newmarket, was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today.

It comes after officers were called at 3.40pm on Saturday 8 March, to reports of an altercation involving four people on High Street, in the town.

Two men were taken to hospital. One of the injured parties, aged 45, was discharged later in the evening on 8 March.

The other casualty, aged 71, remained in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a critical condition where he sadly died yesterday, Tuesday 18 March.

A 23-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm; and a 45-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of affray.

Both remain on police bail until 5 June and 9 June respectively.
