Pollution prompts swim warning at Lowestoft beaches

Water testing underway after Environment Agency issues precautionary advice

A pollution incident at Ness Point in Lowestoft, Suffolk has prompted a warning from the Environment Agency advising against swimming at nearby beaches.

As a precaution, members of the public are being urged not to enter the water at beaches both north and south of Claremont Pier while investigations continue.

Bathing water testing is currently underway, and East Suffolk Council has confirmed that signage has been put in place to inform beachgoers of the potential risk.

A spokesperson for East Suffolk Council said:

“Due to an ongoing pollution incident at Ness Point in Lowestoft, as a precaution, the Environment Agency has advised against swimming at the beaches to both the north and south of the Claremont Pier. Bathing water testing is underway, and signage is in place in the affected area. Further updates will be provided in due course.”
