Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has been recognised at the Diverse Futures awards as Highly Commended in The Partnership Award category.

This acknowledgment highlights the SFRS's efforts in supporting apprenticeship talent, competing against several major organisations such as Instavolt, Jellyfish, and CitNOW Group.

The awards, celebrating their third year, recognise organisations throughout the UK dedicated to developing apprentices.

SFRS’s nomination was submitted by a Diverse Futures skills coach, emphasising their commitment to nurturing future talent.

Moreover, apprentice Liam Gallacher-Borley's safety initiative, aimed at reducing near-miss incidents at height, was shortlisted for the Impact Award.

Though not the winner, this accolade underscores the strength of SFRS's apprenticeship programme.

Achievements and Criteria

Entries for The Partnership Award were evaluated by an internal panel based on criteria such as outstanding support, promotion of apprenticeships, positive influence on career progression, and collaboration efforts.

Judges highlighted SFRS’s commitment to creating a supportive environment with engaged mentors and managers, championing apprenticeships within the community, collaborating with training partners, and focusing on wellbeing and professional development.

Official Recognition and Statements

Chief Fire Officer Jon Lacey praised the teams involved, saying the recognition reflects the passion for developing future firefighters and support staff.

Steve Wiles, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Public Protection, acknowledged the national recognition as evidence of SFRS's dedication to investing in personnel for rewarding careers.

The commendation is a testament to collective efforts from mentors and operational teams within SFRS, fostering a thriving environment for apprentices.
