A local domestic abuse charity tells us it's expecting to see a jump in demand, next month

It's as many UK groups saw a 15% increase in calls to their helpline over the Christmas period, last year.

Official figures show that 1 in 5 people over 16 years old have experienced this in their lifetime.

"It might be that the preparator could make jokes at their partner's expense"

Rhys Lloyd is from Leeway which works across Norfolk and Suffolk:

"We often hear around how people want to create the perfect Christmas. For many that means perhaps keeping the family unit together, so not to unsettle child or ruin the big day.

"That is all before we consider some of the additional pressures that often face at Christmas including buying presents and increased time at home.

He told us about some of the signs to watch out for:

"It might be that the preparator could make jokes at their partner's expense or put them down in front of everyone else.

"It could be that the person looks a little bit anxious to speak out, while the preparator is there.

"It could also be that the preparator does their talking for them, as we know that they are often so controlling.
