The leaders of three authorities have agreed on their Council Tax proposals ahead of a final decision.
Yesterday, cabinet members at Mid Suffolk and Babergh district councils and executive members at Ipswich Borough Council met to discuss and agree on their respective authorities' Council Tax proposals.
Of the three, councillors in Babergh and Ipswich were faced with increases.
In Babergh, the new proposals included a maximum Council Tax increase of 2.99 per cent, or £5.63 a year for a Band D property, while in Ipswich the increase was 2.98 per cent, or £12.15.
Meanwhile, in Mid Suffolk, cabinet members resolved to not increase Council Tax at all, with the average Band D property costing £175.03 per year.
All three authorities decided to increase rents for council homes/affordable and social homes by 2.7 per cent.
In Ipswich, the decision had already been approved by executive members last month, with proposals equivalent to an average £2.72 weekly hike for social and affordable rents.
In Mid Suffolk, yesterday’s approval was equivalent to a £2.78 weekly increase in social rent to £105.78 and £4.05 in affordable housing to £153.87.
Babergh’s proposals were for a £3.01 weekly increase to £114.37 for social rent, and £4.21 for affordable housing, to £160.07.
All three councils decided to keep their Council Tax reduction schemes intact for the residents most in need.
These decisions are now up for debate during their next respective full council meetings, when all councils will be able to weigh in and other political groups will be able to submit amendments.
