Safety tips issued for Latitude Festival-goers in north Suffolk
Police provide advice as thousands descend on music and arts event
As Latitude Festival approaches, held from Thursday, 23rd July to Sunday, 26th July in north Suffolk, Suffolk Police are urging attendees to prioritise safety alongside having fun.
In collaboration with festival organisers, Suffolk Police have shared crime prevention advice tailored to the festival experience.
The most prevalent crime at festivals is theft from tents, including phones and cash, particularly on the first night.
Authorities advise festival-goers to stay cautious, secure valuables either on their person or in storage facilities, and be mindful of thefts while watching performances.
Before arrival, attendees are urged to follow guidance from stewards, stay with friends, and moderate alcohol consumption.
Festival-goers should also be cautious of unfamiliar individuals and report uncomfortable situations using the initiative ‘Ask for Angela’ for support.
Police recommend setting up camp near friends, learning the site layout, and minimising the number of valuables brought on-site.
Those arriving by car should remove valuables from vehicles, as theft can occur when unattended.
Emergency alerts should be reported by dialling 999, but non-urgent incidents can be reported online at Suffolk Constabulary's website.
Suffolk Police will deploy officers trained under Project Servator to identify signs of criminal intent, ensuring a safe environment.
Superintendent Mike Brown stated, “Latitude is a fantastic festival for all the community and our principal aim is to keep you safe so you can have a great time.”
Traffic delays are anticipated on the A12 near Henham, and motorists should plan for extra travel time and patience, especially between Yoxford and the festival site.
Sizewell C is collaborating with Suffolk Constabulary to minimise disruption during the festival.
Marjorie Barnes from Sizewell C confirmed, “There will be no planned Sizewell C-related traffic management or large freight movements on the A12 from 5am on Wednesday, 22nd July and 8pm on Monday, 27th July.”
