Possible grenade found in Lakenheath

A 100-metre cordon has been set up in Lakenheath around Whitewood Walk on the Lord’s Walk estate after a possible grenade was found at a residential property.

The device was discovered by a member of the public and officers were contacted at 12.36pm today, 2 July.

Police are at the scene and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Army is expected to attend.

A police spokesperson said, “We have established a safety cordon and are awaiting the arrival of the Army EOD team to deal with the device.”

UPDATE 17:10pm

A 100-metre cordon set up around Whitewood Walk on the Lord’s Walk estate in Lakenheath has been lifted after an item thought to be a grenade was checked and found to be not live.

Suffolk Police said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Army attended the scene today, 2 July, to assess the device discovered at a residential property.

The item was then removed by the EOD team.

A police spokesperson said, “The EOD team attended, assessed the item, and confirmed it was not a live grenade. They have taken the item away and the cordon will be lifted.”
