Police are appealing for help to find a wanted man from Lowestoft - who they worry may have fled the country whilst on trial for sex offences.

71-year-old Paul Ashworth – who may be using the alias of Edward John Oliver - is wanted on a warrant for failing to appear at Ipswich Crown Court.

He was last seen at the court on Friday 7th February, where he was standing trial for three sexual offences.

The jury had gone out to consider its verdicts when Ashworth – who was not on remand whilst the trial was ongoing – left the court during this time.

He was found guilty of the offences in his absence and is due to be sentenced on 4th April.

Officers searching for Ashworth say they believe he withdrew cash from an ATM in Portsmouth on the afternoon of Monday 24th February.

As a result, the Suffolk Police is now working with with agencies including the UK Border Force and Hampshire Constabulary, in case he's left the country or in another area of the country.

Police would like to hear from anyone who believes they have seen Paul Ashworth, or who has any information on his whereabouts.
