Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was driven at a police officer in the Oulton Broad area of Lowestoft last Wednesday, 1 October.

The incident happened between 6.55pm and 7.05pm on Commodore Road after a nearby collision in Bridge Road led to traffic diversions.

According to the police, an officer managing the traffic at the junction with Caldecott Road encountered the driver of the white Volkswagen Polo, who claimed he needed access to Commodore Road. The officer asked him to pull over briefly until she could help him proceed. “The officer then believed she could smell cannabis coming from the car and reported that the driver became agitated and unwilling to wait,” police said. At that point, “he then turned the car around and drove towards her, causing her to take evasive action and jump out of the way.”

A 36-year-old man from Lowestoft was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 2 October, and questioned at Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the relevant time, to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact East CID at Lowestoft Police Station, quoting reference: 37/55672/25.
