A theme park has unveiled plans to build four new rides as part of a ‘much-needed’ investment.

Ricky Lark, general manager of Pleasurewood Hills, has applied to East Suffolk Council for permission to bring four new amusement rides to the theme park in Leisure Way, Lowestoft.

The proposals follow Premier Attraction Ltd’s purchase of the park from the French company Looping Group back in October.

The four new rides would include:

Star Flyer, a ‘high-profile thrill ride’ about 30 metres high.

Spinning Coaster, a family-friendly roller coaster around 12 metres high.

Apple Coaster, a small children’s roller coaster about five metres high.

Big Wheel, an observation attraction of around 36 metres in height, meant to broaden the appeal of the park for those looking for a ‘gentler experience’

Commenting on the plans, a resident of Great Yarmouth said the park had been at serious risk of closure under the previous owners.

“The new owners appear to be pumping much-needed money into the park in their very first season,” they said, “and this in itself needs to be commended.

“Tourism is suffering with the after-effects of Covid, and the less-than-ideal economic climate, so in my opinion, any reasonable investment in the leisure industry should be approved.”

A planning statement said the new owners were committed to securing the theme park’s long-term future, with the plans being part of a wider strategy.

The owners hope the new rides will not only increase the number of visitors and the time they spend at the park but also ensure it remains competitive within the regional tourism and leisure market.

The plans are now with the council, with a decision expected by April 9.
