Murder investigation launched after inmate dies following attack at HMP Highpoint
A 28-year-old man died after being readmitted to hospital
Police have launched a murder investigation after a 28-year-old inmate of HMP Highpoint, Stradishall, died following an attack by another prisoner.
Detectives were called to Addenbrookes’ Hospital at 11:11am on Tuesday (27th January), after the man, who had been admitted on 23rd January for treatment, passed away.
According to investigators, he was treated in hospital after the attack and returned to prison before being readmitted to hospital days later. He died shortly after.
Police are working closely with the prison to establish the circumstances of the incident.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.
The deceased's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A Home Office post-mortem is scheduled to take place today (30th January).
