A 41-year-old man has been bailed following a late-night car crash in Kessingland, which resulted in damage to five properties.

Police received reports around 11:30pm on 11th March that a van veered off the road, hitting a lamp post and several homes on High Street.

The vehicle occupants fled the scene, leading to a swift response from police, the East of England Ambulance Service, and Suffolk Fire & Rescue.

The collision caused a gas leak which necessitated the evacuation of nearby residents.

A teenage boy from one of the affected properties sustained minor injuries and was assessed by paramedics on site.

Following police investigations, officers located the driver a short distance from the incident.

He was initially taken to hospital for evaluation, then transferred to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.

The man was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including driving while unfit through drink or drugs, failing to stop or report an accident, aggravated vehicle taking, and driving without insurance.

He has been released on police bail, with conditions to return on 7th May.

The police are seeking any witnesses to the collision or those with further information to come forward.
