Man arrested in Stowmarket sexual assault inquiry released without charge

Police are continuing to investigate the attack on the runner.

A man arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Stowmarket has been released without charge.

The attack, which took place on a path off Iliffe Way between 5.45am and 6am on Wednesday (19 November), was reported by a woman in her 30s.

She told police she had been out running when an unknown man approached her, pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

On Sunday (23 November), officers arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault. He was questioned at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre but has since been eliminated from the inquiry, with no further police action taken against him.

Specialist trained officers continue to support the victim, who has been assisting detectives with the investigation.

Police are still trying to identify the suspect, who is described as being white, around 5ft 10 ins tall, of medium build and wearing a dark woolly beanie hat, a thick dark rain jacket and dark trousers.

He is also said to have smelled strongly of cigarettes and cannabis.
